I have long admired the ability certain artists have to draw with total freedom and naivety of a child - As ridiculous as it sounds, as an adult it can be so hard to draw with that wild abandon.

We have had too many years of trying to draw something in a life-like manor, that to totally forget that can feel intimidating. However childlike drawings often have a magic and character which is lacking in a more "serious" drawing. Within my own work, I often am trying to find ways to forget what an animal, plant or figure truly looks like, and instead just capture the essence. So over the years, I have developed various approaches to free up my drawing, force myself to step out of my comfort zone and draw something really badly.

In this session, we will dig into to some of the artists who do this so well, and then it will be a guided drawing session where I will work through various drawing exercises to push our drawing outside of the box. These are methods you can refer back to time and time again. At the end of the session I hope you'll all have a collection of really "bad" drawings.

Our studio talks are virtual sessions covering everything from the creative process, to folk art, to interviews with other artists, to the nitty gritty of running a small business. The sessions take place virtually via zoom, and will take the form of a 40 minute talk followed by 20 minutes of discussion. Each live event is recorded and will be made available to all studio members after the event.

Once you have signed up will be sent an email ahead of the event with details on how to join.
